Designing an Engaging Single-Page Platform for Europe's Foremost Metaverse Festival
Overview
Met Ams, Europe's premier metaverse festival, took place over four days at the iconic Gashouder Amsterdam. The event explored the intersection of NFTs and the metaverse, with over 100 thought leaders, artists, and brands conducting keynotes, panels, discussions, workshops, and immersive installations. The assignment included creating a visually appealing, user-friendly website to digitally capture the essence of the festival.
Challenge
The challenge was to craft an immersive website that guaranteed a seamless user experience while encapsulating the diverse facets of Met Ams. The website functioned as a digital conduit, providing intuitive navigation through key sections: the landing page, photo gallery, festival timetable, blog overview, details, and ticket information.
Approach
The task for Met Ams was to design a responsive and scalable website by integrating a CMS for better user experience and administrative control. We incorporated the site's single-page design, dynamic menu, and AI-graphics into the CMS, facilitating easy content updates and making the website adaptable to the festival's evolving needs.
The website was designed to serve as a dynamic platform for visitors, where aesthetic appeal was combined with AI-driven functionality to enhance ticket sales. This crucial step boosted Met Ams' digital footprint in the rapidly growing metaverse festival scene. By successfully addressing these requirements, we were able to enhance visitor experiences and positively influence their festival engagement. As a result, the website became a valuable digital asset that not only addresses current needs but is also prepared for future changes.
Role
As a UX/UI Designer, my responsibility was to translate Met Ams' values into a visually engaging and user-friendly digital platform. This involved crafting and implementing design elements that reflected the festival's vibrant energy, while also ensuring a seamless user experience.

Design process
Creating Met Ams' immersive website involved a detailed design process, focusing on the festival's theme and audience:
Thematic Exploration: Started with understanding the festival's theme, NFTs, and metaverse culture, laying the groundwork for the design.
Audience Analysis: Analyzed the festival's diverse audience to create an appealing and accessible user interface.
CMS Incorporation: Integrated a Content Management System for seamless control over content updates and future-proofing the platform.
Wireframing: Developed the website's skeletal structure, focusing on logical information flow and navigation.
Prototyping: Transformed wireframes into interactive models for feedback and iterative improvements.
AI-Generated Elements: Incorporated AI-generated graphics, balancing aesthetics and functionality.
Figma Collaboration: Used Figma for real-time collaboration and effective communication among team members.
User Journey Refinement: Continuously refined the user journey for an intuitive flow, focusing on festival timetable and ticketing information.
Accessibility: Incorporated accessibility considerations to create an inclusive digital environment.
Finalization and Testing: Finalized visual elements and conducted testing for consistency across devices and browsers.
Iterative Refinement: Continued refinement based on user feedback and evolving requirements.
Design tool
Figma was crucial for facilitating collaboration and real-time feedback, which ensured a smooth and efficient design process.
Key design decision
In designing the UX/UI for Met Ams' immersive website, the following strategic decisions greatly influenced the user experience:
One-Page Design: Choosing a single-page design simplified the user's journey through the festival's offerings. It eliminated unnecessary clicks and ensured a cohesive, uninterrupted experience. Each scroll smoothly unfolded a narrative, reflecting the fluidity of Met Ams.
Dynamic Menu Navigation: Incorporating a dynamic menu system improved user navigation. Users could easily explore different sections without the disorienting jump between pages, mirroring the festival's spirit of exploration and discovery.
Floating AI-Generated Elements: The use of AI-generated graphic elements, floating like clouds, added innovation and dynamism to the design. These elements enhanced the visual appeal and symbolized the fluid, ever-evolving nature of the metaverse, a central theme of the festival.
Visual Innovation and Allure: Prioritizing visual innovation aimed to captivate the audience and immerse them in the essence of Met Ams. The floating graphic elements, along with a harmonious color palette, created an aesthetic appeal that aligned with the festival's avant-garde spirit.
Seamless Timetable Interaction: The festival timetable was designed to be not only informative but also interactive. Users could navigate the timetable and click on specific days to reveal the schedule, enhancing user engagement and personalization.
Efficient Figma Collaboration: Choosing Figma as the primary design tool was a strategic decision. Figma's collaborative features allowed for real-time feedback and seamless teamwork, keeping the design process agile and accommodating quick iterations and adjustments.
